Happy (funny) Mothering Sunday!

Mothers day, also known as Mothering Sunday, has been celebrated in Europe since at least medieval times. Because it’s tied to Easter, the date varies but it always falls on the fourth Sunday in Lent.

Traditionally, fasting happens during this time, however,  on this day, the rules were relaxed, and people could eat a less restricted meal.

Once the UK became more industrialised, with many people becoming domestic servants, the day was given as a day off they could spend at home with their family.

Mothers’ Day is also known as…

Julia Ward Howe was the first American to have the idea of Mother’s day on the other side of the Atlantic.

It was after the Civil War and her idea was to use the day for mothers around the world to protest against wars!; Howe wrote the Mother’s Day Proclamation (read a version of it here )
